A few thoughts:
1. great post,

2. it’s always hilarious to me when people try to find the “Citizen Kane” of X, given the history of Citizen Kane (commercial and critical failure for years, only recognized twenty plus years later, and elevated to Greatest of All Time status after that)

3. I am always here for dunking on Bioshock Infinite — this is my favorite review of the game and I don’t even care how accurate it is:

(originally by animedads on Tumblr)

4. it’s funny that Cory mentioned the game being “lean”, this hits at one of my favorite dichotomies in game design discourse, which is between “games that are great because every aspect is meticulously and carefully balanced” vs “games that are great because they are completely broken messes of kitchen sink design that stumble to success”. So in the first camp you have Gears 5 or Starcraft or whatever, and in the second you have Morrowind and Ultima VII. Unsurprisingly, attempts to “improve” on either of those situations (say, in a sequel) end up just flattening the experience.
